Bennie Willie Cervenka

Bennie Willie Cervenka, 73, of Taylor, Texas, passed away on July 17, 2026. Born on November 22, 1952, Bennie lived a life defined by devotion to family, hard work, friendship, and a genuine love for the simple joys of life.

Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Agnes Cervenka of Granger, Texas.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Yuvonne (Jody) Cervenka of Taylor, who was not only his loving spouse but also his best friend and constant companion. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and countless adventures. He is also survived by his children, Jason Cervenka and wife Terri of Houston, Chad Cervenka and wife Jennifer of League City, and Lacy Funk and husband Alan of Austin. Bennie was a proud grandfather to Carson and Cameron Cervenka of Houston and Desmond Funk of Austin, whom he loved dearly and was always eager to help and support.

He is also survived by his brother, Richard Cervenka and wife Martha of Austin, a very special cousin and friend, Carolyn Betak of Taylor, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A graduate of Granger High School's Class of 1971, Bennie was known to many of his classmates and friends by his nickname, "Snake." As a junior, he earned recognition as an All-District and All-Centex football player, but a significant knee injury cut short his senior season. His love for football never faded. Throughout his life, fall weekends were reserved for cheering on his beloved Texas Longhorns, the Dallas Cowboys, and during the family's "house divided" years, even the Texas A&M Aggies (as long as they weren't playing UT).

After marrying Jody, Bennie began his working career as a Pearl Beer delivery driver. He later spent eight years with Airtron, where he honed the handyman skills that earned him a reputation as a “Mr. Fix-It”. Those talents were put to good use as he continually repaired, improved, and expanded the family home.

In 1985, Bennie found his dream job with the United States Postal Service, where he proudly served for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2014. For 27 years he faithfully worked the same route, building friendships all along the way. Bennie loved being outdoors and getting to know the people he served, and many came to know and love "Bennie the Mailman."

Bennie will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family. He was the ultimate provider and consistently made time for the people and moments that mattered, whether for dance recitals, band performances, sporting events, celebrations, or simply whenever someone needed help or support. His grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy, and he treasured every opportunity to spend time with them.

He loved traveling, whether it was a beach vacation, a road trip, or a casino excursion, and he was happiest with Jody by his side. Friends and family often joked that while he enjoyed spending time with the guys, he was equally at home as one of the "girls" on trips.

Bennie was also known for his playful sense of humor, never failing to contribute a “dad joke” when the occasion called. He enjoyed tending his vegetable garden, collecting cuckoo clocks, cooking barbecue, and was especially famous for his brisket. He had a special love for dogs and is survived by his loyal sidekick, Gizmo.

Though Bennie's presence will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in the countless memories he created and in the enduring example of love, dedication, laughter, and kindness that he leaves behind.

"Life is better in flip-flops." Those who knew Bennie know he would want us to remember not only those words, but also to cherish family, enjoy a good laugh, root for our favorite team, and never pass up an opportunity to spend time with the people we love.
