Calvin Moerbe

Calvin was born on September 5, 1939, and was raised on his family’s farm in Thorndale, Texas. He was the son of Paul Moerbe and Annie ( Keller) Moerbe Jirasek. He is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy Moerbe; his sons, Wesley (Virginia), Clint (Lisa), and Lee (Shelley); grandchildren, Kevin (Abbie), Morgan Hemenas (Jeff), Sarah Brayton (Derek), Chelsi Moore (Caleb), Tate (ReAnn), Chandler Logback (Colby), Karson Lewis (Wes), Garrett, and Parker (fiancée Jen); 19 great-grandchildren, Hayden Moerbe, Coley, Griffin, Tripp, and Pax Hemenas, Brody and Boden Brayton, Rayland, Wrenley, Layton, Cyrus, and Josiah Moore, Lincoln and Dean Logback, Rhett Lewis, Zoey, Ella, and June Lynch, and Charlotte Moerbe (arriving soon); along with many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant son, Dean Paul Moerbe; his siblings, Nancy Moerbe Felfe (Wilbert), Shirley Moerbe Menzel (Cecil), and Paul Moerbe Jr.; his in-laws, Arthur and Annie Kerlin; and his brother-in-law, Lillard Kerlin.

Calvin was baptized on October 1, 1939 and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale, Texas. He has been a devoted and active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Noack for many years. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1957-1959. Calvin married the love of his life, Peggy Kerlin Moerbe, on November 5, 1961, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work.

Calvin was a member of the Texas Gun Collectors Association and had a deep passion for history. He was an avid collector and was well known in historical collecting circles, notably owning the famous Colt revolver used by Pat Garrett to kill Billy the Kid. Calvin was the proud owner of Cal’s Classic Floors for many years and was widely respected for his craftsmanship and building skills. He took great pride in his work and the relationships he built through his business. He taught his sons to work hard: Two are still in the floor covering business and the other operates his own construction company.

Calvin loved spending time at the Moerbe Ranch, where he was happiest working on his tractor, tending to his cattle, fixing fences, clearing mesquites, fighting ants, clipping sunflowers, and watching Fox News. Ranch life was not just work to Calvin—it was his passion and his peace. Above all, Calvin deeply loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend who would do anything for those he cared about.

Calvin’s life was one of dedication—to his country, his faith, his work, and most importantly, his family. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.
