Gladys Irene (Kolinek) Nelson

Gladys Irene Kolinek Nelson, 93, of Taylor, Texas went home to the Lord on Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Taylor SPJST Nursing Home Facility. She was born on November 28, 1925 to Mary Marsh and Henry Kolinek. Gladys attend Hoxie School, she was baptized and confirmed in the Taylor Brethern Church.

On June 10, 1945, she married Walter G. Eschberger at St. Peter's Church of Christ in Coupland, Texas. Four children were born to this union, Patricia, Rodney, Sharon and Nancy. On January 3, 1969 she remarried the love of her life Wilbert E. Nelson, at Tenth Street Methodist Church in Taylor. Wilbert's son Douglas Nelson joined the family with this marriage. They were then blessed with a daughter, Lori.

Gladys was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and will be greatly missed by each of them. She was an excellent cook and was always collecting new recipes to try. Gladys was never one to be idle and loved sewing, quilting and crafts. Always finding new things to sew like her bears and bunnies. She was known as the seamstress at SPJST Assisted Living Facility for alterations and repairs for the other residents. She worked at Travis State School until Lori was born and then became a stay at home mom. She was very active in her church and especially later in life with her quilting group at Tenth Street Methodist Church. Gladys volunteered at Handicrafts Unlimited in Georgetown, Texas where she sold her many crafts that she made. After Wilbert retired from Alcoa in Rockdale they enjoyed traveling with the Granger Roadrunners Group, which included many of their long time friends. Gladys and Wilbert enjoyed the time spent volunteering with friends and family at the Round Rock SPJST Lodge, she loved to dance and listen to Czech music.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Wilbert E. Nelson, parents, Henry and Mary Kolinek, son , Rodney Eschberger, son-in-law, Bill Holman, granddaughter, Allyson Holman, sisters, Dorothy Kolinek, Esther Meiske and brothers, Raymond and Leroy Kolinek.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Norwood(Jerry), Sharon Holman, Nancy Johnson(Allan), Douglas Nelson(Janiece), Lori Petty(Alvin) and daughter-in-law, Brenda Eschberger, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Gladys lived at SPJST Assisted Living Facility before moving to the SPJST Nursing Home Facility where she was given excellent care by both facilities. The family would especially like to express their deepest appreciation to the staff at the SPJST Nursing Home and Resolutions Hospice for their compassionate and loving care for our mother. Thanks to Pastor Travis Summerlin for his visits to mother. Memorial donations can be made to Tenth Street Methodist Church of Taylor.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, 6-8 pm at Condra Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 10am at Condra Funeral Home, 503 Talbot, Taylor, Texas
