

Jesse Charles Pospisil, 78, of Taylor, Texas passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Beacon House Hospice Facility in Round Rock, Texas. He was born on December 5, 1947, at Stromberg Hospital in Taylor, Texas to M.W. “Jessie” Pospisil and Helen (Horak) Pospisil. He grew up in Taylor and graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in 1966. Jesse met the love of his life, Linda Tallas, when they were sophomores in high school. They were married June 10, 1967, and moved to Austin, Texas. They were blessed with two children, Tammy and Cristy.
Jesse started his professional career at DPS and a few years later started working at the Texas Highway Department, now known as TxDOT. Jesse worked there for 32 years and retired in 2000. He built several life-long friendships there. Jesse also served in the US Army Reserves for 28.5 years, retiring in 1996 as Master Sergeant. Jesse was proud to be a Veteran. Jesse had a servant’s heart and was active in several organizations: American Legion, Graham D Luhn Post 39, KJT, Masonic Lodge #484, Texas Czech Genealogical Society, Taylor Lions Club and SPJST Lodge 29 of Taylor. He was a member of the Taylor Brethren Church.
Jesse was proud of his Czech heritage and was an active member of the SPJST Lodge 29 of Taylor. He served as Vice President in the early 1970s and has been Property Chairman for the last 20 years. He was Chairman of the Taylor SPJST Barbecue Cook-off for over 20 years. Jesse made the trophies and helped with many renovations at the hall. In 2012, he was elected as District 2 Director for SPJST. He was continuously re-elected and was still serving as Director. He was the Treasurer of the Czech Heritage Museum for 16 years and currently served on the Museum Advisory Committee. He served as an SPJST Convention Delegate from 2004 – 2024. Jesse was a skilled craftsman and loved woodworking projects. He often donated his projects for fundraisers, such as domino tables, kid table & chairs, framed art, mirrored crosses, wind spinners and so much more. He made the trophies for the Taylor International BBQ Cook-off for many years.
Jesse was a loving husband, a wonderful father, and a proud grandpa. He loved his grandkids. He attended every concert, award ceremony, and sports game he could. He loved cooking barbecue, making homemade sausage, gumbo, and banana bread. For many years, he had a large vegetable garden and was proud of what he produced. He had several purple martin houses and anticipated their arrival each year. Jesse was the life of the party. He loved socializing and meeting people! He enjoyed playing poker, dominoes, and horseshoes in his younger years. He was always up for a quick trip to the casinos. He loved to go fishing and spend time outside. His workshop was his favorite place to be when he was at home. It was decorated with memorabilia and family antiques with a large tv and several recliners to welcome visitors. Jesse will be missed by so many people. He never met a stranger and always wanted to help anyone in any way he could.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, M.W. and Helen Pospisil, father-in-law and mother in-law Jerry and Frances Tallas, sister in-law Judy Pasemann and husband Paul, and brother in-law Jerry W. Tallas. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Tallas) Pospisil; two daughters, Tammy Cannon (Mike) of Georgetown and Cristy Girod (Mike) of Elgin; grandchildren: Kaitlyn Whatley, Brandon Girod, Hailey Girod and Collin Whatley; sister, Peggy Dewbre (Kevin) of Comanche; sister in-law Cindy Buzan (Greg) of Austin; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. He also leaves behind his cat, Lucky.
Serving as pallbearers are grandsons Brandon Girod and Collin Whatley, nephews Mark Pasemann, Brady Pasemann, Matt Dewbre, Michael Dewbre, and future grandson Darryl Peterson.
Visitation will be held at the Taylor Brethren Church (710 Sloan Dr) on Saturday May 30, 2026, at 11:00 am and the service at 12:00 pm. The burial will be at Machu Cemetery (233 County Road 348, Granger, TX 76530) in Granger, Texas and the funeral gathering will be at the Taylor SPJST Hall (upstairs).
