August 21, 1932 – June 21, 2026
Joylene Annette Doss, lovingly known to her family and friends as “Nanny,” of Taylor, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, at the age of 93. She was born on August 21, 1932, to Alfred and Helen Rathke. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and the heart of her family.
On January 6, 1951, Joylene married the love of her life, Bill Doss. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to their family. Their marriage was a beautiful example of commitment and partnership that lasted for decades.
To everyone who knew her, she was simply Nanny. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She loved playing cards around the table, trying her luck at bingo and scratch-offs, crocheting gifts for those she loved, and baking treats that brought everyone together. One of her favorite times of the year was Christmas. Nanny was always excited for Christmas night at her house, where family gathered, memories were made, laughter filled the room, and her love for her family was on full display.
Nanny will be remembered for her warm heart, her welcoming home, her sense of humor, and the unconditional love she shared with everyone around her. Though she will be deeply missed, the love she gave and the memories she created will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She is preceded in death by her parents Alfred Sr. and Helen Rathke, her brothers, Calvin J. Rathke, Vernon Rathke, Walter Rathke, and Alfred Rathke Jr.
Joylene is survived by her loving daughter, Vickie Canales, her husband Lee, and loving son, Bill Doss Jr. and wife Janet, and her twin sister Joyce Sakewitz. She was also a proud grandmother to Angie Jordan, husband Seth, Aaron Bachmeyer, wife Brooke, Easton Canales, wife Maddie, Jacob Doss, wife Brynne, Adam Doss, wife Ashley, Brad Haag, and Lance Haag.
She was blessed with great-grandchildren whom she cherished deeply: Audrie Jordan, Zac Jordan, Jace Bachmeyer, Emma Bachmeyer, Hayden Canales, Wyatt Canales, Rhett Doss, Briggs Doss, Dax Doss, Harper Doss, Bailey Haag, Diego Haag, and Javier Haag.
Serving as pallbearers will be Aaron Bachmeyer, Adam Doss, Jacob Doss, Easton Canales, Zac Jordan and Seth Jordan.
The family invites all who knew and loved Nanny to join them in celebrating a life well lived and a woman who meant so much to so many. A graveside service will be held at Taylor City Cemetery on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at 11:30 a.m.
We would also like to thank Trinity Hospice for their wonderful care, compassion and empathy during this difficult time.
