A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Temple with Father Ranjan Cletus officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery in Westphalia.
Angie was born on December 29, 1933, in Westphalia, Texas to Bertha and Ben Roessler. Her father called her “Tootz” when she was a little girl, because as she picked cotton in the fields with her sisters, walked miles along dirt roads to school, and learned to milk cows that often had high tempers and even higher kicks, she never complained. On the contrary, she was given the nickname due to the beautiful smile that was always on her face, as she made a simple life on the farm something incredibly sweet. As she grew to be a young woman, she continued to make life all the more sweet for everybody who had the pleasure and privilege of knowing her.
She was raised in the Westphalia community, attending Westphalia schools and graduating from Lott High School in 1951. While in school, she enjoyed playing on the girls’ basketball team, and attending dances at the Westphalia dance hall. After growing up surrounded by loving siblings, she was brave enough to move to Temple on her own, becoming a licensed vocational nurse. She was always lending a helping hand; a woman who cared for those around her deeply, and always listened with attention, curiosity, and love. She worked for approximately five years with Scott & White in Temple, treating many soldiers and veterans, before she met the love of her life Raymond (Ray) Kosel. Never before have you seen a couple glide across the dance floor with the harmony and grace that they did. Completely in step with each other, forever in time, the whole world would melt away when they were dancing. They were married on June 9, 1957, at the Church of the Visitation in Westphalia with Father Robert Schertz officiating. Ray’s career kept them dancing to Dallas and Ft. Worth, and they glided back to Temple in 1965. Along the way, they welcomed five sons and one daughter into this world. A devout Catholic, she lived her faith through servant leadership in the many Catholic churches for which the family were members. They were active members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church community in Temple for over 50 years through participation in the Altar Society, Quilting Angels and assisting with annual picnics, Thanksgiving meals, and the many bereavement meals provided to members of the church through the years, where she would often supply her famous oatmeal cookies and her special apple and pecan pies.
She enjoyed traveling, especially to the areas in Europe where her descendants were from, visiting friends and family, sewing, quilting and crocheting, dancing, and listening to music. She was creative, resourceful, and infinitely generous, making stunning costumes for her grandchildren’s various plays and musicals, and attending all of their school concerts and plays. Her joy was infectious and pure, and seeing her supportive presence in the audience at the end of a performance made you feel like you were walking on sunshine. There was nothing like witnessing her shine, and feeling her warmth. Angie was a bright light, and to encounter her laughter and her spirit was an invaluable gift.
She was preceded in death by both her parents, her son Mark Kosel, sisters Rosalie Green and Mary Anne Harris and brother Roman Roessler. She is survived by her husband of 68 years Ray Kosel of Temple, sisters Elizabeth Morris of Belton, Lucille Buckholt (husband Alois) of Arlington, Bernadette Bruggman of Cyclone and Madeline Lambert of Temple, brother Marvin (Buddy) Roessler (wife Nelda) of Blanco, daughter Karen Kleypas (husband Matthew) of Temple, sons David (wife Lana) of Eddy, Steve (wife Lisa) of Leander, Michael of Waco, and Chris (wife Martha) of Dallas, 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be missed by all, but especially those that called her sister, aunt, great grandma, grandmother, mother, and wife. In lieu of flowers, please provide donations to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or St. Mary’s Catholic School.
Her family would like to thank the many healthcare professionals, nurses, and doctors at Baylor Scott & White CDM, Hospital and Continuing Care Facility, Right at Home Agency and AccentCare PT and Hospice for the great care that they provided.
