Obituary for mom With hearts full of gratitude for a life beautifully lived, the family of Anita Jecmenek of Rogers, Texas announces her passing on May 8, 2026, at the age of 78. Anita went home to be with the Lord, passing peacefully with no pain in Temple, Texas. In this peaceful homecoming, she is now joyfully reunited with those who went before her, including her beloved son Eddie, ending a long and tender separation.
Anita was born in Beaumont, Texas, on July 8, 1947, to Ottis Ray Coleman Sr. and Murrel Janeice Coleman. In 1956, her family moved to Columbus, Texas, where she graduated from high school in 1965. She later moved to Temple in 1966 to attend nursing school at Temple College. In 1968, she married Richard Jecmenek, and together they made their home in Rogers, Texas, where they began their family. Anita developed a heart of service early in life, despite facing her own medical challenges. She dedicated 25 years to her work as a nurse, touching countless lives with her compassion and care. She was a shining example of unconditional love—a woman whose life was defined by her devotion to her family, friends, and community. She rarely saw a need she didn’t try to meet. Above all, Anita was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother—roles she cherished beyond measure. She was a source of endless comfort, offering tender hugs, wise counsel, and a listening ear. Whether crocheting a baby blanket for a new arrival, sitting quietly with someone in need, or offering a shoulder to lean on, she made her home a safe harbor for all who entered. She nurtured her children and grandchildren with grace, teaching them that true strength lies in kindness.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Jecmenek; her son, Eddie Jecmenek, whom she now holds close again in a joyful reunion; her brother, Ottis Coleman Jr.; and her parents.
She is survived by her sister, Beverly Booth; her daughter, Leanna Lester (J.R. Lester); one granddaughter, Jocelyn Bartmess; three grandsons, Jacob Whitmire , Clayton Whitmire , Luke Lester, and two great-grandchildren, Amara and Rylan Whitmire.
A visitation will be held at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Rogers Cemetery in Rogers, Texas.
In lieu of flowers memorials to the Rogers Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Rogers ISD would be appreciated.
