Anna Marie Brodie

Anna Marie Brodie Anna Marie Kurtin Brodie of Temple died Tuesday January 19, 2010 at her Temple residence. Services for Mrs. Brodie will be at 10:00 AM Monday January 25, 2010 at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple with Reverend Tom Robbins and Reverend Hubert Austin officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Mrs. Brodie was born in Temple the daughter of John J. and Theresa Drobil Kurtin. She was a 1950 graduate of Temple High School. She received her A.A. from Temple College her B.S. from Southwest Texas State University and her M.S. from Baylor University she also had attended Harvard University and Texas A & M University. Mrs. Brodie was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Temple. Mrs. Brodie was a past President, District Director and Governor of Soroptimist International; she also was a past President of the Temple and Brazosport Boys and Girls clubs. She was a past President of the S.W.T. Alumni Association. She was also the past President of the Head Start Board of Brazoria County. Her memberships include the Freeport League. P.D.K., D.K.G., A.D.K., T.S.T.A.-NEA and the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge 87 of Temple. Mrs. Brodie had taught in the Temple Independent School District where she was an elementary school Principal. At Texas A&M University, she was an Elementary and Middle School Principal. In Brazosport she was the Director of Elementary Education. She was the First National Distinguished Principal recipient for the State of Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association. At her retirement Mrs. Brodie had taught for over 43 years. Mrs. Brodie is survived by her husband William E. Brodie and two sons Stephen and wife Robin Brodie as well as John and wife Arlis Brodie and five grandchildren James, Tommy, Michael, Nicole and Jordon Brodie. A visitation will be held Sunday January 24, 2010 from 3 to 6 PM at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Head Start Program of Brazoria County the Ralph Wilson Youth Clubs of Temple or the Brazosport Boys and Girls Clubs.
