Barbara Ellen Becker

Barbara Ellen Becker, age 94, of Temple died Monday, August 15, 2011 in a local nursing center. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 18 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Ranjan Cletus as celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 PM Wednesday, August 17 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. Mrs. Becker was born on September 22, 1916 in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Claude David and Mary Margaret (Dowling) Jackson. She received her education in Stillwater, Chicago, Amarillo and Dallas graduating from Our Lady of Victory College in Fort Worth. She worked in Dallas at Titche-Goettinger, Sears and Roebuck and Texas Pacific Railway. She served during World War II in the Women's Army Corps of the Army Air Forces in Dallas and Acera, British West Africa (now Ghana). She received a dependency discharge in June, 1945 and returned to Dallas. Here she married George Adam Becker of Cyclone on June 23, 1949. They moved to Temple in 1954 where Mr. Becker opened Becker's Radiator Service, Inc. Mrs. Becker was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Altar Society, the Council of Catholic Women and was a volunteer in other organizations. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband on September 20, 2008. Survivors include two sons, George David Becker of Uhland, Thomas (Tom) Anthony Becker of Belton and three daughters, Margaret (Maggie) Clara Becker of Waco, Barbara (Tee) Kathleen Carter of Uhland and Julia Elizabeth Becker of Crofton, Maryland and six grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
