Barbara Fitzwater

Barbara Fitzwater, age 69, of Temple died Saturday, August 22, 2009 in a local nursing home. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 26 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Greathouse Cemetery. Ms. Fitzwater was born on September 30, 1939 in Houston to D. W. and Hurdus Cecilia (Wood) Skillern. She was reared and educated in Houston where she attended St. Agnes Academy. She completed her education at Paris Jr. College in Paris, Texas. She was a registered nurse and worked for the V. A. Hospital in Temple, King's Daughters Hospital and later at the Texas Dept. of Health and Human Resources. She grew up in the Catholic church. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John William (Jack) Decker. Survivors include two sons, David Ericksson (Erick) Cole of Madisonville, Russell Glenn Cole and wife, Julie of Bowie, two daughters, Theresa (Terry) L. Steelman and husband, Robert of Paris, Jennifer D. Fitzwater of Austin and three grandchildren, Chelsea Steelman, Taylor Steelman and Steven Davis, Jr. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
