
Funeral services for Benny Lee Lewis, 90, of Temple will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Benny F. Lewis and Rev. Tom Popelka officiating. Burial will be in Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Mr. Lewis died Wednesday in a local Nursing Home. Mr. Lewis was born Oct. 18, 1919 in Henderson County to Sim Lewis and Annie Cooper Lewis. He served in the U.S. Army, in the 36th Infantry Division during World War II. He married Wilma Oslin March 1, 1943. He moved to Temple in 1952. He worked for roads and grounds construction at Fort Hood. After his retirement he was a bus driver for Belton Schools. He was active in Little League baseball. He was the past Grand Master at the King Solomon and the Knob Creek Masonic Lodges and was a past commander of American Legion Post 133. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter Penne Lewis. Survivors include his wife Wilma Lewis of Temple; three sons Benny F. Lewis and his wife Pamela of Nacogdoches, Russell L. Lewis and his wife Cassandra of Bellevue, Nebraska and Lamar O. Lewis and his wife Colleen of Bandera, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
