Betty Ruth Hurley, age 89 of Temple passed away Thursday, June 6, 2024. She was born July 16, 1934 in Delhi, Louisiana to D.S. Higdon and Clemmie (Chisholm) Higdon. She grew up in Delhi and after school she met Rufus “Bud” Hurley and they were married February 25, 1951. Bud worked for Sun Oil Gas Plant and later was transferred to McAllen, Texas where he worked offshore. Betty loved to tell stories of their days living in the Sun Oil Camp in the 1950’s and the friends they made through the years and still to this day her dear friends Jim & Margaret Fraizer. They had a great time with their daughters. Although Margaret is the last one, she knows she will see her loving friends and their children that sadly went before them. Betty loved her friend’s with passion. Louann Moseley was blessed to be one, she was their friend and took care of Bud & Betty until Bud’s passing in 2011 and was by Betty’s side until her recent passing. They were very fortunate to have each other. Betty retired from Sears after 20 years working in the furniture, drapes and appliances departments in Beaumont and McAllen. They moved to Temple in their later years. Betty loved her cat Suzie.
For the last year & a half Betty was in Canyon Creek Memory Care. She absolutely loved it. The family she came to know and love there was amazing. The girls that she lived with were like sisters and friends, they talked, laughed and ate together. When she was in her room in bed, they would all come in and check on her. How Beautiful they are, and Matt the Director, she loved him. A special thanks to Novotny Baez, and the aids who took the time and took extra special care with Betty, “Thank You”.
