

Billy Reed Powers, age 88, of Temple Texas was called home on June 23, 2026. Billy was born September 6, 1937, in Waco Texas to Ivy Lee (Bill) Powers and Hazel Reed Powers. Billy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Rebecca Ann Neely (Becky), his parents Bill and Hazel, his sister Cheryl Tharp, and his brother Benny Powers.
Billy is survived by three children, their families and a brother; his daughter Kimberly Savage of Whitney and her husband Lloyd, his son David Reed Powers of Bryan and his wife Andrea, and his son Mark Lee Powers of Lewisville and his wife DeAnna. Billy & Becky had eight grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. Also surviving is his brother Brent Powers of Valley Mills Texas.
Billy’s life began in Valley Mills, Texas in Bosque County. Billy graduated from Valley Mills High School in 1956. Billy worked as a heavy equipment operator and then in 1968 started Bill Powers Insurance Agency along with Becky. Billy was dedicated to his insurance customers until he retired.
On June 23, 1957, Billy married the love of his life Becky! Billy and Becky lived in various towns around Texas including Ft. Worth, Valley Mills, Gilcrest, San Antonio, Waco, Houston, and Temple.
Billy enjoyed the outdoor life! Billy was a lifelong hunting enthusiast including fishing, dove hunting, and deer hunting. Billy liked hunting with family and friends. Often Billy could be found teaching family members the enjoyment of fishing and hunting. But Billy probably enjoyed being outdoors most when he was attending a sporting event for one of his children or grandchildren.
Billy and Becky were members of 7th Street Methodist Church (Oak Park United Methodist) since 1962 when they settled in Temple. In the early years at the church Billy and Becky were MYF leaders and a Billy was a member of the Methodist men.
Serving as pallbearers will be Theron Morrow, Beau Powers, Brody Powers, Tom Bromley, Josh Powers, and Garrett Powers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Dickey, PD Wallace, and Tom Fritz.

Scanio-Harper Funeral home will be directing the visitation at Oak Park United Methodist Church at 5505 S. 31st St, Temple TX 76502. A visitation will be held on Tuesday June 30, 2026 at Oak Park Methodist Church at 9:30am with Billy’s funeral at 10:30am. Interment to follow at 3:00pm at the Morgan Cemetery in Morgan Texas. Reverend Conrad Raines (former Temple Police Officer) will conduct the service.
