

Burnice Elizabeth Center Talley, age 94, died on the 15th of November, 2011, at her home. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on the 19th at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home, Reverend Martin Knox officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Mrs. Talley was born on November 15, 1917, in Temple to Mr. and Mrs. Murphy Center. She graduated from Temple High School in 1934 and the University of Texas at Austin in 1938. While in college she was active in Kappa Alpha Theta and was president of Mortar Board, a board of twenty senior girls selected for outstanding leadership in extra-curricula activities, scholarship and character. She married Dr. J. Bartow Talley in Temple on March 24, 1941. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church and Nelwyn Round Table. Her club activities included Tuesday Study Club, Arno Art League, Antique Glass Club, Medical Alliance of Bell County, Nan Brown Garden Club, Betty Martin Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, Domestic Science Club and City Federation of Women's Clubs. Mrs. Talley was preceded in death by her husband Dr. J. Bartow Talley, son Dr. George B. Talley, daughter-in-law Liz Talley and grandson, Sean Talley. Survivors include her children and their spouses Elizabeth and Fred Frankland of Tampa, Florida, Marsha Talley of Temple, Dr. Murphy Talley of Belton, Lora and Ken Beasley of Kemp and Bobbie Talley of Bastrop. She was also survived by her grandchildren and their spouses Lora and Robert Watts of San Antonio, Jessica and Brock Talley of Cedar Park, Virginia Talley of Austin, Marsha and Travis Rapé of Oceanside, California, and great grandchild Mason Watts. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Temple or the charity of your choice.
