

Carolyn was born on August 10, 1944 in Crosbyton, Texas to Roy and Mary Matthews. She lived most of her childhood in Sunray, Texas and graduated from Sunray High School.
Carolyn worked for Texas Cable Association in Houston and Galveston, Texas. She met W.E. Whitehead in Galveston and they married on December 3, 1977. They moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where she served as office and assistant manager at Athena Cablevision. She was promoted to general manager in 1980 and resigned in 1983 to relocate to Ruidoso, NM.
In 1987 Carolyn and W.E. moved to his ranch in Sonora, TX where they began a journey together that would involve the importation of the first Boer goats into the USA. They were recognized as pioneers in the industry and spent years promoting and perfecting the breed, which in turn resulted in multiple national champion awards. They travelled throughout the US to give educational seminars, attend shows, and purchase new genetics. Their travels took them to South Africa many times which became a place that Carolyn grew to love dearly. They retired from ranching in October 2005 and moved to Salado, Tx.
Carolyn was a woman of great strength and always had a vision. She was courageous and always determined to achieve greatness in all of her endeavors.
Carolyn is survived by her daughter Shelley Lowry, and her husband Patrick; Granddaughter Catherine Grace Lowry; sister Robin Brewton, and her husband Wade; and nephew Landry Brewton. She is preceded in death by her husband W.E. Whitehead, her sister Joyce Causey, and her parents.
