Carrell "Butch" James Newman

Butch was born on January 11, 1941 in Bellville, Texas, to Carrell Walton Newman and Rosa Lee Muery Newman. He graduated from Bellville High School in 1959 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy, enlisting on July 27, 1960. He was honorably discharged on July 26, 1962.

Following his military service, Butch attended Blinn College before continuing his education at Sam Houston State University, where he earned his master's degree. He enjoyed a distinguished career as an accountant at Blinn College in Brenham, where he was respected for his integrity, dedication, and attention to detail.

On November 27, 1969, Butch married the love of his life, Mary Jo Chilek, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Yoakum, Texas. Together they shared 40 wonderful years of marriage until her passing.

A faithful member of Temple Bible Church and keeping also with Catholic sacraments and watching Mass, Butch lived a life centered on faith, family, and service to others. He found great joy in fishing and treasured every opportunity to spend time with his beloved granddaughters, Ella and Olivia. Whether gathered around a family meal or sharing stories over good food with friends, Butch's generous spirit and warm hospitality made everyone feel welcome.

He is survived by his son, Joseph Matthew Newman and wife, Trichelle Angelene, of Temple; his brother, Maurice Newman of Bellville; his sisters, Sherrie Yvonne Lehman of Bellville, Pattie Clair Burgess of Sugar Land, and Lesia Ann Schwarze of Bellville; his cherished granddaughters, Ella Grace Newman and Olivia Maria Newman, both of Temple; and his sister-in-law, Nancy Estes.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Mary Jo Chilek Newman; his parents, Carrell Walton Newman and Rosa Lee Muery Newman.

The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2026 at Temple Bible Church. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Chase Bowers officiating. Burial will follow at St. Ann Catholic Cemetery near Yoakum, Texas.

Now my father is in heaven. He’s been given a new identity. In his last days, he showed us overcoming faith. He is cheering us all on now. He loves and forgives everybody. He also showed us that God even His Body on earth is more stubborn in wanting us to be in Heaven together than we can be stubborn in trying to avoid God. He just needs us to turn to Him to Love, and be shaped by Him as clay on a potter's wheel.
