
Charles A. Wheeler, III, 67, of Temple died Friday, March 21, 2008 in a local hospital. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Gary DeSalvo officiating. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Wheeler was born October 3, 1940 in Temple, Texas to Charles Alexander and Calel Baker Wheeler, Jr. He was a graduate of Temple High School. He was a graduate of the University of Texas receiving a bachelor degree in Engineering Science and received his master's degree in Science from Cornell University. Mr. Wheeler worked as an engineer for Texas Instruments in Texas, Sanders Associates in New Hampshire, and Watkins-Johnson in California. He returned to Temple and was owner and operator of Wheeler's Hardware and Lumberyard. He taught for many years at Temple College, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and Central Texas College. He was a member of the American Association of Physics Teachers, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Alpha Phi Omega, National Service Fraternity, Eta Kappa Nu Association, Engineering Honor Society, Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society, American Radio Relay League, Inc., The Gideons International, Ham Radio Club, Astronomy Club, and First Baptist Church of Temple. Mr. Wheeler was an Eagle Scout. Survivors include his wife, Betty Wheeler of Temple; four daughters, Elizabeth Tanaka and husband Sho of Temple, Jennifer Wheeler of Temple, Alyson Crow and husband Ricky of Rogers, and Sarah Liles and husband Brent of Temple; two sisters, Carol Posey of Rotan and Cathy Kneip and husband Bill of Temple; one brother, Douglas Wheeler of Temple; three grandchildren, Alex Crow, Olivia Crow, and Jeb Tanaka.
