

Charles Ray Chapman, age 71, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025. Born on December 30, 1953, Charles was a proud native of Temple, Texas. He graduated from Temple High School before continuing his education at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. Charles was an athlete who played on the varsity football and baseball teams for Temple High School. Charles focused primarily on baseball and in his senior year he won the Hallford Trophy, Outstanding Player Trophy, was voted catcher of the year for the South Zone, and team captain. Charles continued to excel in baseball at Southwestern University and deeply enjoyed the sport during his time there.
Charles dedicated 44 years to the banking industry in Temple, TX, serving his community with the utmost integrity and dedication. Charles had the ability to build relationships with virtually anyone that he encountered with many of his clients becoming close friends. Charles invested much of his time in his relationships with younger bankers as a close friend and mentor. He retired in 2023 from VeraBank, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and kindness. Charles was very involved in his community where he was a graduate of Leadership Temple, served on the Ralph Wilson Youth Club, Ronald McDonald House, Uptown Downtown Temple, and was a strong supporter of the Temple Chamber of Commerce. Beyond his career, Charles found joy in the simple pleasures of life spending time on the family farm, bird hunting, fishing, boating with his grandchildren, watching their various sporting and extracurricular events, and enjoying fellowship with his friends.
Charles was engaged to Vicky Tomastik and is survived by his beloved daughter, Melanie Collier, and her husband, Jason Collier. He was a proud grandfather to Mackenzie Ann, Corban Ray, and Kenneth Edward Collier. He is also survived by his dear friends from the Wiseman family, Emily Wiseman, Will Wiseman, and Sarah Wiseman Gott and husband Brandon. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Kenneth Chapman and Bettye Ann Weaver Chapman of Belfalls, as well as his longtime companion, Jan Wiseman of Temple, TX.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Trinity Church, Temple, TX.

Charles was a kind and caring individual who placed his family above all else. His warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for those around him will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
