
Charles H. McCormick, age 89, of Temple passed away peacefully Thursday, August 30, 2007 in a local nursing home. Services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 4, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Victor Pena officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held 6 8 PM Monday at the funeral home. Mr. McCormick was born on August 24, 1918 in Lissie, Texas to Ben F. and Minnie Campbell McCormick. He grew up in the prairie rice fields around Eagle Lake and Lissie. He married Georgia E. Sharp on February 21, 1939 in Temple. They moved to the Temple area in 1946 where he farmed. He began a welding business which he owned for 13 years. He then worked maintenance for Wilson Art Plastic, Belton Rockwool and retired from Mineral-Wool Inc. in Rogers, Texas. But he was always a farmer at heart. One of his most favorite things was to deer hunt with his son and grandson. He was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and Knob Creek Masonic Lodge #401, Scottish Rite Bodies and Karem Shrine Temple in Waco and Order of the Eastern Star Vashti Chapter #32 of Temple. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years who passed away on August 25, 2007, his parents, two brothers and their wives and four sisters and their husbands. Survivors include his son, Lamar McCormick and wife, Karen of Taylor, his daughter, Tommie Rexora Towne and husband, Ted of Harker Heights, granddaughters, Jonna Evans and husband, Brent of Breckenridge, Temple Baker of Taylor and grandson, Cove McCormick and wife, Casi of Georgetown. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Collin, Jimmie, Julia and Watson Evans, Michael Joe and Gaven Ivey and Grace Emma and Addie Diane McCormick. His pallbearers are Louis Sirny, Ronnie Chapman, Billy Joe Ledger, Hugh Smith, Clyde Reed and Brent Evans. Honorary pallbearers are Walter Buro, Bill Strong, Eugene Bridges and Larry Stanford.
