
Funeral services for Chief Woodrow Wilson Robbins, 90, of Temple will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Henderson and Rev. Billy Koehm officiating. Burial will be in Greathouse Cemetery. Mr. Robbins died Sunday in a Temple Hospital. Mr. Robbins was born in Granger to John Jasper Robbins and Ada Lucinda Holley Robbins. He graduated from Academy High School in 1935 and joined the United State Navy. During his twenty years career he served in World War II, Korea, on seven ships including USS Omaha, USS Chester, USS Cockrill, USS Currier, USS Laws, USS Leray Wilson and USS Erben, two ammunition depots in Canal Zone and Guam and served at the recruiting stations in Waco and Temple. He was a Chief Gunners Mate. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Temple for seventeen years and he owned and operated Robbins Mobile Home Park on Midway Drive for thirty three years. He married Mable Hicks August 27, 1941. She preceded him in death in 1994. He then married Myrtle Tompkins April 15, 1995. He was a member of the Civitan Club, being named Civitan of the year in 1981, a member of Promise Keepers, American Legion Post 133, The Fleet Reserve Association, National Association of Letter Carriers. He had been President of Temple Bowling Association and was a member of Temple Bowling Association Hall of Fame. He was a member of Heights Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and was a Sunday School Teacher. Survivors include his wife Myrtle Tompkins Robbins of Temple; one daughter Rozeana Conner of Temple; two sons David Robbins of Salado and Rondel Robbins of Temple; two step sons Wayne Tompkins of Holland and Tommy Tompkins of Elkins, West Virginia; one stepdaughter Diane Tompkins of Belton; twenty four grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Heights Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Charity of Choice. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday at Scanio Harper Funeral Home.
