Pieter Christiaan (Chris) Cornelius duPlooy passed away suddenly in the early hours of May 30, 2018 at the age of 63. Chris was born in Breyten, South Africa on September 23, 1954. He met his beloved wife, Debbi, in 1975 while she was on holiday in South Africa after graduating from university. They were instant soulmates and six months later, were married. Seeking greater opportunities, Chris moved his family to the United States after their son Pieter was born in 1986. Chris was a great provider for his family. He was a dedicated, hard-working man and took great pride in whatever he accomplished. He was devoted to his wife and son. Everything he did in life was for them. Chris never met a stranger. Every person he met became an instant friend and he loved nothing more than to be around friends and family. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved camping, fishing and hunting, which he did at every opportunity. Chris will be greatly missed but never forgotten. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Debbi, from Belton, TX, and his son, Pieter duPlooy from Leander, TX. He is also survived by his brother, Pietie duPlooy, his sister, Mona Otto and his step-mother, Fransie duPlooy from South Africa. He had numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and their families from here and abroad. A celebration of life service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 102 N. 2nd St., Temple, TX 76501 at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 9th, 2018. Any floral arrangements should be sent to Scanio Harper Funeral Home, 3110 Airport Rd., Temple, TX 76504 for delivery to the service. “Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love. It’s all the love you want to give, but cannot. All that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.” – Jamie Anderson
