
Corinne Talley Daniel, age 91, died on February 20, 2008 at Scott & White Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, February 23, at First Baptist Church in Temple with Rev. Theiss Jones and Rev. Martin Knox officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 8:00 PM at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mrs. Daniel, a native of Temple, was born on October 8, 1916 to the late Dr. and Mrs. L. R. Talley, who were pioneers of this city. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, John B. Daniel, Jr. and her sister, Martha Kyle Talley. Mrs. Daniel graduated from Temple High School. She attended Baylor University for two years where she was selected a Sophomore Beauty. She then attended the University of Texas at Austin where she was selected a Bluebonnet Belle Nominee and from which she received a B.A. Degree in 1938. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma social sorority. She received the Outstanding Alumna Award from Mary Hardin-Baylor University in 1977 where she studied music while still in high school. Mrs. Daniel married John B. Daniel, Jr. in 1940. She was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church and taught Sunday School and played piano for the young people's department for many years. She was quite active in civic affairs. She organized and led Temple's first Girl Scout Troop in 1948. She was interested in school affairs and the Parent Teacher's Association, having been president of the Lanier PTA in 1950, the Jefferson PTA in 1955, the Lamar PTA in 1960 and Temple High School PTA in 1965. As a member, she was also interested in and took a leadership interest in the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society and the Temple Infantile Paralysis Association. Mrs. Daniel was a member of the Domestic Science Club (Past President 1944), the Temple Music Club, Arno Art Club, Tuesday Study Club, City Federation of Women's Clubs of Temple, Nan Brown Garden Club (President 1943), Friends of the Temple Public Library, Antique Glass Club (President 1997 1998) and the National Trust for Historical Preservation. She was a charter incorporator, member of the first Board of Directors in 1958 and Chairman of the Board of Education of Cultural Activities, Inc., Temple, Texas. She was a charter member of the Bell-Lampasas-Mills Counties Bar Auxiliary, Visual Arts Division of C.A.C. and the Contemporaries (1970-99). She was a charter member of the Wildflower Guild of the Central Texas Orchestral Society, a member of the Betty Martin D.A.R., a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Society, the Gold Heritage Society of Baylor University and Nelwyn Rabon Round Table of Women's Missionary Union of First Baptist Church of Temple. She was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship from Rotary International Foundation. She is listed in the 1986-1987 Edition of Who's Who in the South and Southwest. Music was her first love. She started studying piano at the age of six and was composing music at the age of twelve. She won two piano contests, one at the age of twelve. Later she won the City Federation of Women's Club Louzella Rose Barclay Fine Arts contest first award for two original music and lyrics piano selections. She studied art at Baylor University and McLennan Community College and with John Carter in Killeen. She placed first with an abstract oil painting in the first open art exhibit at Temple College. Her paintings were exhibited in art galleries in Waco, Houston, Salado and Temple. Her work is in private collections throughout the country. Mrs. Daniel is survived by her children, Terry Daniel Fisher of Longview, Dr. Britt Talley Daniel and his wife, Patti of Dallas and Kay Daniel Harrell and her husband, Bob also of Dallas; and by 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 102 W. Barton Ave., Temple, Texas or to Scott & White Hospital, Temple, Texas.
