Cyril Armstrong was called home by the Lord on May 9, 2025, in Temple, Texas. He was born on January 26, 1929, in Mallard, Iowa, to Cyril and Marie Armstrong. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who was respected, admired and loved.
Cyril lived his life well. He joined the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, where he worked as a gunner’s mate, serving on the USS Philippine Sea alongside his brother Bob. While home on leave he met his wife Geri on a double date. Together they embarked on a wonderful adventure that lasted seventy-one years.
The mountains of Colorado called to him and the family moved to Denver from Iowa in 1966. The family spent many weekends camping, cooking hamburgers, and hiking all over the front range and then many more years at The Land near Westcliffe, Colorado. His other hobbies included making and shooting muzzle loaders along with the other guns he enjoyed. He built amazing sets for his church’s children’s programs. Rock hunting was always one of his favorite activities and he loved to share this interest with others.
He was a hard-working man who ensured his family had love, knowledge, and experiences. Cyril was self-taught and could do any type of carpentry, plumbing, or electrical work, from making furniture to building a house and barn with his son Mike. Cyril was a craftsman who could do anything he put his mind to. He could see it/plan it in his mind, put it to paper and then build it. Everything he made was a work of art. He instilled this strong work ethic and can-do spirit in all his children.
He is survived by his wife Geri; sisters: Dorothy and Donna; children: Jennifer (Jim) Fulton, Mary (Horst) Roehler, Julia (John) Rampe, and Michael (Sue) Armstrong; grandchildren: Karen, Philip, Becky, Ben, Ana, Ryan, Melissa, Kayla, Amy and Michael; great grandchildren: Elizabeth, Malcolm, Nicholas, Alphonse, Louis, Emma, Grace, Kai, Desmond, Dylan, Keegan, Kieran, Kynlie, Zoie, Arie, Devon, and Graeson.
He was predeceased by his brother, Bob Armstrong.
A memorial service for Cyril will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home, 3110 Airport Rd, Temple, TX 76504.
