I was saddened to hear that Darlene passed away. Thought about Darlene the other day and found her obituary. Darlene was born in the AM of October 19,1942 and I was born in the PM...not sure, but probably in the same hospital. We lived less than a half mile from each other. Started school together...I remember our fifth grade class when she was one of the two girls and I was one of the six boys in the class. And we graduated together... Our high school class had a 10 year reunion in 1970 and I cannot remember whether she attended? If not, then I only saw Darlene one time over the past sixty years. And that time, I will never forget: I was sitting on the front porch of my parents home in McMechen, probably in the late 1970s. This young woman was walking down the street, she crossed over the street and came up the steps to the porch where I was sitting. She looked at me and, after a few seconds, said, "You don't remember me, do you?" and I responded with something like this, "I'm sorry, you do look familiar but I'm not remembering the name." Darlene started to sing, Happy birthday to us, happy birthday to us." And I said "Darlene!" We shared a few moments and parted company once again. It was a brief moment in time out of the span of 60 years, but it is a moment I have never forgot...and never will. Darlene was a sweet person growing up. I can only imagine her becoming sweeter as time passed by. My sincerest condolences to the family of Darlene Davis Trowbridge.

Darlene Trowbridge remains an important part of life and I will always think of her gentle nature and kind heart.  Growing up across the street in our little culdesac, Darlene helped me to take every day moments and appreciate the beauty the world lays at our feet (birds, trees, rain showers, sunsets, Lions Park).  She knew how to bring out the beauty in people, too - treating everyone with dignity and respect. I love you, Mrs. Trowbridge. Dr Throwbridge, I was so sad to see that Darlene had passed. I send my prayers and sympathy to you and your family. I didn’t know her well but she was always so nice when I did talk to her. She is at peace now. Sincerely Peggy

I met Darlene the day before the very first day of first grade for her youngest daughter, Denise.  My daughter, Amy, was also a new first grader.  There was an open house the night before and we both took our daughters to Polar Bear Ashburn's for ice cream to celebrate!  We recognized that we had just seen each other at the school, so we sat and visited.  We all became such good friends which lasted for a long time.  Darlene and I visited at church over the years.  She was a precious friend whom I have prayed for often the last several years. Such fond memories to have.
