

David W. Phillips, Sr., age 88, of Temple, Texas formerly of Little River Academy, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at a local care center. He was born on January 25, 1929 the son of Kenneth Guthrie and Margaret Jeanette Phillips. Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 30, 2017 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home 3110 Airport Rd. Temple, Texas 76504. A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 31, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Grace Presbyterian Church 2401 S. 57th St. Temple, Texas 76504. Private burial will be held at Bellwood Memorial Park in Temple. David owned and operator a dairy farm from 1956-1970 and also worked for Northrup King Seed Company retiring in 1992 after 27 years of service. He was a graduate of Texas A&I in Kingsville (now A&M Kingsville), was a member and Elder at Grace Presbyterian Church, member of the Bell County Cowboy Hall of Fame, and was an avid pecan grower and was a member of the Pecan Growers Association and won several county and state awards for his pecans. He was also a member of Mason’s Knob Creek Lodge #401, a charter member of Mason’s King Solomon Lodge #1427 and past Master of the Mason’s Zern Lodge #615 where he was a member since 1993, was a founding member of the Texas Singles Association, and a founding member of the Early Days Texas and Engine Association. David is survived by his children; David Phillips, Jr. of Little River, Tod Phillips of Little River, Mark Phillips of Tomball, Jim Phillips of Austin, and Becky (Pat) Mahoney of Macy, Indiana, grandchildren; Terry (Sarah) Phillips of Temple, Rachel Phillips of Temple, Kara Phillips of McKinney, Derek (Erika) Phillips of Wylie, Ryan Phillips of Sicily, Italy, Brian Mahoney of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Phillip (Britt) Mahoney of Larkspur, Colorado, Clara Mahoney of Elkhart, Indiana, and Kathleen Mahoney of Macy, Indiana, and great-grandchildren; Gabe, Jude, Rowen, and Taran. He is also survived by his sister Margaret (Don) Gerloff of Florida, 3 nieces and 3 nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Kenneth G. Phillips, Jr., and his former wife Clara Joan Phillips Pinkerton. In lieu of flowers memorials to the Bell County Cowboy/Cowgirl Hall of Fame, BCCCHOF P.O.
