Dorothy Chervenka Martin Gaines

Dorothy Chervenka Martin Gaines, age 92 of Temple, died Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Chet Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 9-10:00am Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the funeral home.

Dorothy was born on July 9, 1927 in Temple, Texas to the late Paul Chervenka and Mary Jarma Chervenka. She attended schools in Temple. Dorothy married Laurin T. “Gaino” Gaines in Temple on September 21, 1956. Mr. Gaines preceded her in death on December 16, 2007. She worked at J.C. Penney as a window dresser as well as Gaines Frozen Foods, Gaines Grocery and Market and at the Southside Post Office. She loved singing, dancing and being with family. Her family was so important to her. She was a member SPJST Lodge 47 in Seaton, Beseda dancers and was a member of Oak Park United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Eva Thompson and Annamae Ferrara, and a brother, Edwin Roy Chervenka.

Survivors include her sons, Hal Martin and wife Paula of Temple and Steve T. Gaines and wife Glynnis of Robinson; grandchildren, Kelly Martin, Tyler Martin, Adam Martin, Kelsey Hofman, Chris Gaines and Matt Gaines; great grandchildren, Kayla Martin, Hudson Hofman, Nate Gaines, Lauren Gaines and Hannah Gaines.
