Dorothy Sawyer Arvin

Dorothy Sawyer Arvin, age 94 of Temple, died Friday, October 23, 2015 in a local care center. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 28th at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Darren Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday, October 27th at the funeral home. Mrs. Arvin was born April 12, 1921 in Georgetown to Louis L. and Nancy Belle Cothren Cockrum. She graduated from Holland High School and was a longtime resident of Moffat. She married Homer Sawyer on October 31, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1982. She married Cecil Arvin on August 23, 1991. He died in 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son, Homer Louis Sawyer, two sisters, Flora Bell Sherman and Lola Mae Wingert and two brothers, Louis Cockrum, Jr. and Clarence Cockrum. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Coakley of Temple and Patsy Quinn and husband, Bill of Lockhart, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Jo Ann Goolsby of Mesquite. Pallbearers are Danny Cockrum, Gary Cockrum, David Quinn, Lee Sawyer, Tony Coakley and James Cox.
