Funeral services for Doyle Ray Knight, 77, of Temple will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 23, at Cross Church on Bird Creek with Rev. Tim Chaplin officiating. Burial will be in North Belton Cemetery. Mr. Knight died April 16, in a Temple hospital. He was born July 27, 1944 in Temple to Hulen Doyle Knight and Dorothy Marie Nichols Knight.
Doyle lived in Houston during grade school and Holland while he was in high school. He graduated from Holland High School in 1963 where he was a star pitcher for the baseball team. After high school, he attended Temple Business College. He married Kay Sebek on December 28, 1968. The couple moved to Temple after they wed. Doyle worked at WilsonArt for his entire career. First doing swing shift and then in Scheduling as a Production Scheduler.
Doyle was a family man. Being a husband, father and Pa was what he loved most. He adored Kay, cherished his kids and spoiled his grandkids with attention. He was never too busy to listen, talk or have a little fun. If his family needed him, he was there.
An avid fisherman, he was a member of the Bell County Sportsman Club for decades.
Doyle loved sports, especially baseball. He enjoyed being a youth baseball coach for many years in Temple. He was a big fan of the Texas Rangers, Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys.
Doyle was very friendly and he loved to talk. He could talk about most anything with anyone. He liked the big family gatherings with tons of food. It seemed he could eat and talk for hours.
He was a Christian and most recently a member of Cross Church on Bird Creek.
Doyle was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Ann Knight, and his parents. Survivors include his wife Kay Knight of Temple; one son Jason Knight and his wife Sandy of Belton; one daughter Lisa O’Kelly and her husband Seth of Peoria, Arizona; one brother Gary Wayne Knight of San Antonio and four grandchildren Megan O’Kelly, Parker O’Kelly, Beau Knight and Birdie Knight.
Memorials may be made to Cross Church on Bird Creek. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM Saturday, April 23, at the church. Scanio-Harper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
