Dr. R.B. Baker

Memorial services for Dr. R.B. Baker, 81, of Temple will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Adrian Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Dr. Baker died Monday at his residence. Dr. Baker was born in Burkburnett July 22, 1928 to Robert B. Baker and Altie Denton Baker. He married Bettye Griffith May 3, 1948. He graduated from Olney High School, Baylor University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and received his doctorate from Howard Payne University. He pastored several churches in Texas before pastoring Memorial Baptist Church in Temple for twenty one years. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and served on the Board of Trustees at Howard Payne University for many years. He took many groups, on tours, to the Holy Land and he was an Interior Designer. After leaving Temple he pursued other business interest. He returned to Temple in 2000 and was a member of Memorial Baptist Church where he was Pastor Emeritus. Survivors include his wife Bettye Baker of Temple; one son Mark Baker of Temple; one daughter Belinda Clark of Austin; two sisters Zola Owens and Ruth Young both of Olney; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
