

Edward Olen Hurta, 92, of Temple died Thursday February 16, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Patricia Dietrich officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Taylor City Cemetery in Taylor, Texas. Mr. Hurta was born September 28, 1919 in Taylor, Texas to Charlie and Carrie Hurta. He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army in Europe as a Tank Commander. He married Edna Richter on March 31, 1946 in Taylor. They moved to Temple in 1946 where he worked for Lone Star Gas Company for over 38 years retiring in 1984. He enjoyed working in his yard, was a Mason, and a member of First Lutheran Church where he sang in the choir for many years. He was a member of SPJST Lodge #87, American Legion Post #133, and an Associate Member of the Sheriff's Association of Texas. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Geraldine (Jerry) Hurta on October 13, 2011, his parents, four brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include his wife Edna of Temple; a son, Dwaine Hurta and wife Karen of Plano; seven sisters; one sister-in-law; two kittens, Maggie and Crissy. Visitation will be held 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, 1515 W. Adams, Temple, TX 76504
