

Mrs. Evelyn Garner Manoogian, 91, of Temple, TX passed away in a local continuous care facility on Saturday, September 10, 2016 Friends and guests are invited to call between 6 and 8 p.m. Tuesday September 13th and from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday September 14th at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home, Temple. A brief service will be held at Bellwood Memorial Cemetery at 1 p.m. Wednesday September 14th. Sister Ann Pennington of Austin, former chaplain at Senior Care at Marlandwood East, will conduct the service. Evelyn was born June 4, 1925 in Amity, Arkansas to Homer and Beatrice Garner. The family moved to Whitewright, TX in 1934 where she attended church and schools, graduating from Whitewright High School. After graduation, she worked as a telephone operator before marrying Jack Manoogian, who was in the U.S. Army. During their early marriage they spent two tours in Germany where they enjoyed traveling throughout Europe. After the second tour in Germany, Evelyn and Jack were stationed in Fort Hood where he retired. While in the military they established many friendships which endured over their lifetime. After retirement, they moved to El Paso where they were active members of Sunset Baptist Church and were life time members of DAV were Evelyn was involved in auxiliary events. They lived in El Paso for many years before moving to Temple to be close to family. Evelyn was dedicated to her family and was known for her love of current events, enjoying her daily newspaper along with her coffee. Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Jack Manoogian, her parents, sisters Faye Griffin and Martha (Marty) Garner, brothers Nylon Garner and Kenneth Garner. She is survived by her son and wife Roger, and Nancy Manoogian of Temple, brother Houston Garner of Whitewright, grandchildren Kelly Manoogian of Austin, Valerie Baker of Flower Mound and Tracy Manoogian of Las Vegas, NV and great-grandson Bryant Baker. Evelyn is also survived by her niece and husband Vickie and Larry Landrum of Denison, nephews David Rhudy and Jeremy Rhudy of Dallas, Alan Kachanian and Garon Kachanian of Windham, NH, nephews and wives Richard and Gayle Kachanian of Laconia, NH, Dwayne and Laura Griffin of Sherman, and Michael and Emily Kachanian of New Boston, NH.
