There will be a Celebration of Life at 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday September 9th, at Troy United Methodist Church in Troy, TX; food is provided.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 10th at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple, TX, followed by a graveside service at Bellwood Memorial Park.
Gary was born February 14, 1940, in Temple, TX to Marvin Watson Doughty and Erna Mae Lips Doughty. He graduated early from Troy High School with high honors. In his youth, Gary worked on the family farm, built and raced cars, and spent many hours with family fishing and camping at Belton Lake.
At the age of 22, Gary went to work for the newly formed Ralph Wilson Plastics Company where he rose to Manager of Finished Goods and retired after 35 years of service to the company.
While working at Ralph Wilson Plastics, Gary met and married Wanda Carol Dorsey Doughty in 1971. They shared 47 years together before she preceded him in death in 2017.
Gary and Carol were very active in his family church, Troy United Methodist, where he served on their Council on Ministries, and eventually helped to relocate and build the church at its present location. They contributed their time to the church's community efforts and traveled to various locations doing mission work.
He became Scoutmaster of Troop 105 of the Boy Scouts of America in the early 1980s when his youngest son joined Webelos and continued until the late 1990s.
After his retirement, Gary and Carol traveled the Hill Country of Texas camping in their RV and visiting with friends and family.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wanda Carol Dorsey Doughty, and his granddaughter Rebecca Baker Dutcher. He is survived by his Brother Billy Fred Doughty and wife Dolores of Temple, TX, his five children Cindy Doughty Joyner of San Antonio, TX, Gary Christopher Doughty of Austin, TX, Paul Craig Doughty and wife Debbie of Monument, CO, Jeanese Owens Ranly and husband Brian of Belfalls, TX and Michael Wayne Doughty of Temple, TX, five grandchildren; Jennifer Cavazos and husband Michael, Megan Vatole and husband Kyle, Colton Ranly and wife Virginia, Jared Ranly, and Rogan Ranly, eight great-grandchildren; Garrett Cavazos, Gillian Cavazos, Carson Lineback, Markus Dutcher, Kelsey Ranly, Amelia Vatole, Abigail Vatole, and Ainsley Vatole.
Pallbearers are Gary Christopher Doughty, Paul Craig Doughty, Markus Dutcher, Garrett Cavazos, Colton Ranly, Jared Ranly, Honorary Pallbearers are Rogan Ranly, Mike Cavazos.
