Gary Wayne Meyer

Born during a historic snowstorm in Waco, Texas, on January 29, 1948, Gary was the son of Leonard and Alice (Huber) Meyer. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Riesel, TX on April 15, 1962, beginning a lifelong journey of following Christ that shaped the man he became. On December 26, 1969, he married the love of his life, Paula Jean Stewart. Together they shared more than 56 years of marriage, creating a home marked by faith, unconditional love, laughter, and a deep commitment to Christ. Their greatest pleasure was raising their two daughters and watching their family grow, especially the blessing of becoming Popo and Momo to five wonderful grandchildren.

Gary's professional life reflected the same integrity, humility, and servant leadership that defined his character. After many successful years in management with ServiceMaster Hospital Services, he continued serving at Baylor Scott & White in Temple until retiring in 2014. While devoted to his profession, his greatest calling was serving the Lord and investing in the lives of others.

Wherever God led him - from Oklahoma City and Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Little Rock, Arkansas, Flower Mound, San Antonio, and Holland, Texas - Gary built lifelong friendships and faithfully served his church. He helped plant a Methodist church in Flower Mound,TX served as an elder at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, TX and worshiped for more than 20 years at Temple Bible Church, where he served as a deacon, greeter, Pacesetter, Welcome Center volunteer, and active participant in the men's Bible study. His quiet humility, genuine kindness, and steadfast faith made him a trusted friend, mentor, and encourager.

Gary also served through Community Bible Study for 18 years, including as Area Director for the Belton/Temple and Taylor classes. He spent eight years in Bible Study Fellowship, serving five years as a children's leader, and later served with Child Evangelism Fellowship as a Good News Club leader, joyfully planting seeds of faith in young hearts.

Gary measured success not by accomplishments but by faithfulness. His greatest desire was to see others come to know and follow Jesus Christ. Whether through his family, his church, his work, or a simple conversation, he gently pointed people to Christ through both his words and the way he lived.

Gary was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud "Popo." He treasured every moment with his family, offering wise counsel, sharing stories, cheering on his grandchildren, and loving each of them with quiet strength and unwavering grace.

Gary leaves behind his beloved wife, Paula Meyer of Holland; daughters, Kim Bentson and husband Peter of Grapevine, and Wendy Wilson and husband Darin of Trophy Club;

grandchildren, Kalle, Avery, and Brady Bentson, and Nathan and Reagan Wilson; sister, Carol Merritt of Riesel; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Pat Bumelis, Sam Stewart, Claudia and Ronnie Dowdle, Bobby and Lee Ann Stewart, Janis and Garland Haverkamp, and Edna Gambardella; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Alice Meyer; his sister, Karen Meyer; his nephew, Travis Haverkamp; and his brothers-in-law, Odis Merritt, Al Bumelis, and Ed Gambardella.

Though his family and friends will miss him beyond words, they rejoice that he now stands in the presence of his Savior, hearing the words every believer longs to hear: "Well done, good and faithful servant." The family finds comfort in the hope they share in Jesus Christ—a hope Gary delighted in sharing with others.
