Born in Meeks, Texas, to Oscar and Ella Bedrich, George grew up on a family farm alongside his brother, Curtis. He graduated from Rogers High School and Southwest Texas State College, demonstrating the same dedication and work ethic that would define his life.
On June 18, 1960, George married Rosamond Hoelscher, beginning a lifelong partnership that produced three children: Mary Beth, Bob, and Mike. The family made their home in Temple, Texas, where George built a remarkable career in accounting. He spent many years at Centex Ready Mix in Temple, serving as Controller and General Manager. In 1988, George and Rosamond moved to Fort Worth, where he became Chief Financial Officer of Tarmac Texas, the parent company of Centex Ready Mix. In 1996, the couple returned to Temple and co-founded Knutson Bedrich and Associates, where George continued to work in public accounting for over 20 years, totaling an extraordinary 64 years in the workforce, not including his early farm and college work.
A veteran of the Texas National Guard and the 49th Armored Division, George also dedicated himself to his faith. He joined the Catholic Church upon his marriage and was a founding member of Saint Luke Catholic Church in Temple. He served on the first elected Church Board and contributed to building committees for the church, rectory, and original parish hall. George and Rosamond were deeply involved in parish life, participating in countless church activities over the years.
George cherished time with his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the Texas Hill Country. He loved sitting on the porch, smoking meat under the big tree in the backyard, fishing with his grandchildren, and attending sporting events and school activities. Known affectionately as “Pop,” George was a loving and guiding presence, leaving a legacy of service, hard work, and unwavering devotion to family and faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Ella Bedrich. George is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Rosamond Bedrich; his brother, Curtis Bedrich (Molly); his children, Mary Beth Gaspard, Bob Bedrich (Lori), and Michael Bedrich (Vanessa); grandchildren Lincoln (Tiffany), Lauren (Caleb), Jay, Leah, Stephen, Landon (Shelby), and Wil (Rene); great-grandchildren Landry, Rowan, Avery, Lincoln, and Grace; and numerous nieces and nephews.
George’s life was a testament to integrity, dedication, and love, a true example of good moral values and hard work. He was an advisor and mentor to many generations and will be remembered as a good man whose legacy of family devotion and service endures.
