
Glenn Richards, 63, of Temple went to be with his Savior on Sunday, March 19, 2006. Funeral services will be held at Temple Bible Church at 10:00 a.m., March 23, 2006 with Reverend Gary DeSalvo and Tiger Dawson officiating. Visitation will be held at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home Wednesday, March 22, 2006 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Glenn Richards, a fourth generation Texan, was born in Temple, Texas to William Shirley Richards and Glennie Wolle Richards on June 20, 1942. He lived in Temple all of his life except for his years in college. He graduated from Temple High School in 1960 and Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas in 1964. After receiving his B.B.A. degree in Business and Economics, he returned to Temple and went into a partnership with his father in the Richards Insurance Agency. In 1998 he merged with Summit Global Partners and became Senior Vice President and CEO of the Temple sales office which became one of the premier insurance brokerage firms specializing in commercial insurance and surety bonding. In addition to insurance, he was also CEO of West Park I Investments and The AGE Company, both of which specialized in investments, property leasing and management. His professional memberships included many national insurance company panels. His special accomplishments included president of Cater PTO, Rotary Club, Temple Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Temple Alumni, Temple Industrial Foundation, Temple High School PTO, Leadership Temple, and Temple Independent Agents Association. He was on many local, national, and statewide boards and advisory councils, Temple Business League, Compass Bank, Temple Law Enforcement, King Daughters Hospital Association, Temple Independent Agents Association, Texas Commission of Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Appointed Special Citizen Liaison to Organized Crime Unit, Temple Police Academy, Mayor's Council on Youth, Central Texas Young Life, Temple Reinvestment Zone Board, Central Texas Council on alcohol and Drug Abuse, Temple Housing Authority, Temple Area Homebuilders Association, Temple Electrical board, Temple Planning and Zoning, Bell County Child Welfare, Temple Junior College, Texas American Bank of Temple, Temple Economic Development Corporation, and Temple Housing Development Corporation. He was awarded "Outstanding Boss of the Year" 1984, "Member of the Year" 1978, Bell County Child Welfare Board, and March 1, 1990 was proclaimed by the Mayor of Temple"Glenn Richards Day." Mr. Richards is survived by three daughters; Kristen McDaris and her husband Steve, and Kelli Richards both of Temple, Kandace Porter and her husband Jeff of Portland, Maine. His grandchildren include Brittany and Brooklyn McDaris and Matthew Richards all of Temple, and Morgan and Mason Porter of Portland, Maine; his mother Glennie Richards of Temple; and his two sisters, Nelwyn Johnson of Belton and Betsy Johnston of Temple; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Shirley Richards. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Temple Bible Church 3205 Oakview Dr., Temple, Texas 76502.
