

Helen Marie Overton, age 97 of Temple, went to her heavenly home on Monday, March 11, 2019 in a local hospital. Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 16th at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Ridge Adams officiating. Robert Mattson will be providing her two favorite hymns. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1:00 – 2:00 PM Saturday, March 16th at the funeral home.
Mrs. Overton was born November 28, 1921 in the Hare Community in Williamson County to Henry Clay Warner and Nettie Lou Holly Warner. She graduated as Salutatorian of Sharp High School in 1939 and married the “love of her life”, E. J. “Mike” Overton on July 26, 1941 in Long Branch, New Jersey. In her early married years, she worked in retail, but devoted the majority of her life to her family and home.
As a member of Memorial Baptist Church for 72 years, she served in the nursery department, as a teacher in junior and primary departments and served actively at “Townsie Day” as well as an active member of the Mary Martha Class for many years. Her passion for serving others extended to Memorial Baptist Benevolence Committee and alongside husband Mike, they shared their love and service within the homebound department.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters and a great-grandson. Survivors include two daughters, Marsha Mikulencak and husband, Lanny of Houston and Mona Collier and husband, Gene of Rowlett, four grandchildren, Marissa Jones of McKinney, Trent Collier of Brooklyn, NY, Brance Mauldin of Black Hawk, SD and Raven Woods of Rowlett, eight great-grandchildren, Rachel Jones, Hannah Jones, Caleb Jones, Noah Jones, Elizabeth Jones, Abigail Jones, Simona Collier and Hudson Woods. Also surviving is one sister, Marjorie Liles and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Trent Collier, Brance Mauldin, Tim Jones, Chris Woods, Paul Thompson and James McConnell.
Memorial donations may be made to Memorial Baptist Church.
