

Funeral services for Henry B. "Sonny" Hutka, Jr., 86, of Temple will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at Scanio Harper Funeral Home with Dr. Don Lynn officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Hutka died Wednesday at a local nursing home. Mr. Hutka was born in Temple to Henry B. Hutka, Sr. and Frances Hejl Hutka. He graduated from Temple High School. He served in the U.S. Marines in the 2nd Marine Division, in the South Pacific, during World War II. He married Laverne Calhoun. She preceded him in death in 1992 after forty two years of marriage. He then married Mary Halfaker Bridges Sept. 11, 1993. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a lifetime member of Temple Elks Lodge #138; VFW Bell Post #1820, American Legion Post 133 and SPJST Lodge in Academy. He was a member of First Christian Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers Johnnie Hutka and Albert Hutka. Survivors include his wife Mary Hutka of Temple; one son Mark A. Hutka of Temple; two stepsons Sam Houston and his wife Genie of Temple and Ken Bridges and his wife Pam of Temple; one stepdaughter Donna Moore and her husband George of Temple; one brother Bill Hutka and his wife JoAnn of Gatesville; three sisters Evelyn Younts of Temple, Frances Nester of Killeen and Shirley McCray and her husband Don of Temple; eight grandchildren Scott Houston of Belton, Buckey Houston of Missouri, Brooke Bridges of Temple, Brandy Bridges of Pflugerville, Greg Moore of Washington, Angie Richmond of Troy, Daren Bridges of Gladewater and Doug Bridges of Belton,twelve great grandchildren two sister-in-laws Bernice Hutka of Temple and Geraldine Hutka of Temple. Memorials may be made to Educare 2828 Cottonwood Temple, Texas 76502. Pallbearers will be Jerry Maxfield, Cave Wann, Jerry Jet, Dean Clifford, O. L. Harper, and Sam Farrow. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Scanio Harper Funeral Home.
