

Services for Henry Perry Yates, age 84 of Temple will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the Floca Memorial Pavillion of Hillcrest Cemetery with Chaplain Eric Hammer officiating. Mr. Yates died Monday, March 28, 2011 at a Temple nursing home. Mr. Yates was born in Waco, TX on January 26, 1927 to the late George Gordon Yates and Rowena Graves Yates. The family moved to Temple in 1929. Henry attended Temple public schools except for his senior year at Kemper Military School in Boonville, MO. Following graduation, he joined the Army Air Force during World War II. After leaving the Army, he attended Temple College for a year before enrolling at Baylor University where he completed his formal education in 1950. His working career was primarily in insurance claims spanning 42 years. He was a member of Western Hills Church of Christ and was also involved in the Rotary Club, Lions Club, Insurance Claims Organizations and the Boy Scouts of America. Benny Evelyn Snellings, also of Temple, became Henry's wife on February 24, 1951. They had 2 sons, Perry and Michael. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. Henry was a most honorable man and proud of the fact that he was a 5th generation Texan. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael G. Yates; and a brother, William G. (Bill) Yates. Mr. Yates is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his son, Perry Yates and wife Lucy of Morgan's Point and his sister, Margaret Ann Ashcraft of Austin.
