Our loving father made his ultimate journey home to be with our Lord and Savior on February 25, 2007. May God bless us everyone. Jack Kinard was born October 29, 1916 to Luther E. and Margaret Pratt Kinard in Van Alstyne, TX. Jack had one brother, Alton and four sisters, Merle, Margaret, Ruth, and Martha. Jack graduated from Abilene High School and The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Pharmacy. He married Mary Lois Hawkins on December 29, 1940 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He joined the US Navy in 1942 and was stationed in Sanford, FL when he was honorably and medically discharged in June 1944. Jack and Lois then moved to Van Alstyne where Jack was the pharmacist for City Drug and worked with his father who owned the store. Soon thereafter, they moved to Austin where Jack worked for the State Health Dept. After joining the Veterans Administration in Houston as Pharmacist, Jack and Lois moved to Temple, where Jack was the Chief Pharmacist for the VA for the rest of his career. After God, Lois and his family, Jack loved the gentleman's game of golf. Jack began playing his game after an apprenticeship as caddy in Abilene. His golf buddy, and life long friend from that period in his life is Dr. Lymon C. Reese of Austin. Jack's relaxation was always found on the links and he made many friends and earned many trophies as a result. Jack and Lois were members of First United Methodist Church of Temple and of the Friendship Class where they studied the Bible together with many wonderful friends. Jack was an usher for many years and he and Lois worked with "Meals-On-Wheels" while still able. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at the Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Hubert Austin officiating. Entombment will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. Jack is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 64 years. He is survived by his sister, Martha Foster Skiles, Dallas, TX; two sons, Lee of Burnet, TX and Dan of West Hartford, CT; 4 grandchildren, Cynthia Besse, Melissa Donka, Cameron Kinard and Preston Kinard; 4 great-grandchildren, Christina Smith, Logan Donka, Lauren Donka, and Lyndsey Donka. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Lymon C. Reese, Blair Skiles, David Bunger, Jeffery Bunger, Travis Bunger, Larry Crawford, and all who loved Jack. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Temple, 102 N. 2nd Street, Temple, Texas.
