
James Perry Knowles, 86, of Temple, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at a local Temple hospital. Services will be Friday, January 13, 2006 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home, at 2:00 P.M. with Minister Lloyd Hall officiating. Burial will follow at Robert's Cemetery in Troy, Texas. Mr. Knowles was born in the Bottoms Community near Troy, Texas to Lee (Dutch) W. and Maggie Pyeatt Knowles. He attended schools in Troy and graduated from Oenaville High School in 1938. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the 36th. Infantry Division , 143rd Company D of the Texas National Guard, the U.S. Army Air Corp, and the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1961. He married Ethelyn Knowles February 22, 1943. After retiring from the U.S. Air Force he worked for the Veterans Administration for 20 years retiring in 1981. He was a member of Ave T Church of Christ, Central Texas Sportsman's Club, 20th Air Force Association, Bell County Sportsman's Club, and the Chisholm Trail Good Sams Club, Temple. Survivors include his wife Ethelyn Knowles of Temple; one daughter, Donna Allison and husband, Gary of Hockley, Texas; one son, Kent Knowles and wife, Kitty of Cypress, Texas; one sister, Wilma Bulls of Temple; four grandchildren, Mike Knowles and wife, Danielle, Cindy Knowles, Ryan Allison and wife, Denice, and Keith Allison; and two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Caysen. He was preceded in death by brothers Jack, Tex and Asby Knowles, his twin sister, Mary Moore and sister, Louise Knowles. Visitation will be Thursday, January 12, 2006 from 6-8:00 P.M. at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
