

Funeral services for James Winston “Slick” Vaden, 79, of Temple will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie McGarvey officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Vaden died Wednesday in a Temple Living Center. Mr. Vaden was born June 30, 1936, in Temple to Otis Leonard Vaden and Lorraine Head Vaden, who later became Lorraine Head Brown. He graduated from Temple High School in 1954 and attended Schreiner University in Kerrville. He married Nan Vick August 30, 1958. She preceded him in death May 21, 2014. He and his wife lived in Houston for 16 years before returning to Temple in 1982. He assisted his wife with her business Nan Vaden’s Temple Temps, worked with his own company in Asphalt and Seal Coating and operated Jim Vaden Shredding. He was a member of Temple Bible Church. He loved going to the Donut Shop for daily coffee and loved to play golf. Survivors include one son Vince Vaden and his wife April and grandchildren Jake, Taylor, Morgan and Jenna of Katy; one daughter Valerie Vaden Jarosek and her husband J.D.of Temple and grandchildren Jaxon, Hailey and Ty; two nephews Scoop Carlile of Katy and Jeff Carlile of Oakland, California and one niece Breeze Carlile of Oakland, California. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Sunday at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
