Janann Kay Groezinger

Janann Kay Groezinger, age 79, of Temple, Texas, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026. She was born on March 23, 1947, in Savanna, Illinois, to Glenn John Groezinger and Dorothy Louise Smith Groezinger.

Janann made Temple her home in 1972 when she began her career at Scott & White Memorial Hospital. She started in the Registration Department, where she was responsible for ensuring patient records were delivered to physicians in time for appointments during an era when all medical records were maintained on paper. She often shared fond and humorous stories of tracking down physicians and locating missing charts to ensure patients received the care they needed.

Her dedication and strong work ethic led to her promotion as supervisor over several clinic registration desks, where she provided support for numerous medical specialties. As healthcare evolved, Janann continued to serve Scott & White with the same commitment, later transferring to Hospital Admissions and Room Control. She remained in that position until her retirement in 2011, concluding nearly four decades of faithful service to the Temple community.

Retirement allowed Janann to devote herself to one of the greatest joys of her life—helping dogs in need. She was a passionate advocate for animal rescue and volunteered countless hours fostering dogs rescued from neglect and cruelty. She participated in adoption events and “Meet and Greet” gatherings, taking great pride in helping families find the perfect canine companion. Nothing made her happier than seeing a rescued dog find a loving forever home.

Janann shared a special bond with her own rescue dogs. After losing her beloved Gracie Mae, whom she had rescued from San Antonio, she insisted she would never have another dog because the loss was simply too painful. That resolve lasted only four weeks before she called one of the Journey Home Rescue volunteers and said, “Let’s go to the Temple Shelter.” There she met Mia, an owner surrender, and it was love at first sight. Janann and Mia became inseparable companions, and Mia faithfully remained by her side until Janann’s passing.

Janann will be remembered for her compassionate heart, unwavering dedication to helping others, her love for animals, and the kindness she freely shared with everyone she met. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched—both human and canine.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn John Groezinger and Dorothy Louise Smith Groezinger, and her brother, Glenn William Groezinger.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home in Temple, Texas.

Burial will take place at a later date at Savanna Township Cemetery in Savanna, Illinois.
