

Jane Elizabeth Pickens of Temple, age 58, passed away on December 11th, 2017 at her daughter Katie's home in Temple, with her loving family at her bedside. She fought a long, hard battle with cancer. Jane was born February 1st, 1959 in Houston, Texas to the joy of William Robert Pickens and Marsha Jane Pickens. She attended Elementary School in Bryan, Texas and in Temple, Texas. She attended Temple High School and graduated from Belton High School. She also attended Temple College. As a young girl, she was a member of the Central Texas girls choir and was also a Girl Scout. She enjoyed playing the piano. As she grew older, she loved caring for children in her home and she enjoyed using her computer and research skills to help others. If anyone came to her door for help, she was always there for them. She always wanted to make life better for others. Jane is survived by her mother, Marsha Jane Smith and her stepfather, Jacob Allen Smith, her brother, John Pickens and his son, Layne Pickens, her three daughters, Christy Jane Johnson and her husband Mitch Johnson, Katie Elizabeth Maxwell, and Sarah Melissa Kerbow. Jane is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, Joshua Brian, Megan Elizabeth, Lauren Alyssa, Melanie Kate, Kayleigh Grace, Jacob Anthony, Mitchell Bodair, Caleb Joseph, Carlie Rae, Jayden James, Matthew Kyler, Gracelynn Jane and her three great-grandchildren, Rosalina Elizabeth, Sophia Jane, and Ramón Luis. She was preceded in death by her father William Robert Pickens, her grandparents Kenneth and Ieva Roberts and her uncle Kenneth Roberts, Jr. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday December 16th, 2017 at Temple Bible Church, Creekside Center at 11:00 a.m. A balloon release will be held after the service. The family wishes to thank Scott & White Hospital's nursing staff and attendants, and Chaplain Bruce Mercer.
