Janet, born on June 12, 1952, in Austin, TX, was the beloved daughter of the late Herman and Irene Griffin McGill. She attended Temple High School and graduated with honors from the University of Texas in 1973. Janet's passion for education led her to become a teacher in Austin shortly after completing her studies.
Janet and Joe Frank Marinik first crossed paths during high school and later tied the knot on August 11, 1973. Their union lasted thirty-six cherished years until Joe's passing in 2009
After time in Austin, they eventually returned to and made their home in Temple, TX. As a lifetime member of the Texas Exes, Janet's devotion to her alma mater was unmistakable, especially when it came to watching Longhorn football games.
Upon settling in Temple, Janet continued her teaching career within the Rogers Independent School District before embracing her role as a devoted mother. Her most cherished achievement was nurturing her two children, Christi (Frisco, TX) and Adam (Los Angeles, CA). With her gentle yet resilient demeanor and her innate generosity, Janet savored spending time with her children, her grandchildren Maddie (18) and Chase (14), her siblings, and her tight circle of friends.
Janet was deeply engaged as a parent, relishing the opportunity to teach and collaborate on school projects with her children. Despite contending with multiple bouts of cancer and other physical challenges since the age of twenty-five, she persevered as a survivor throughout her lifetime.
Besides her passion for gardening and growing flowers, Janet was also known as the consummate hostess. Her decorating style reflected her personality—never overdone, yet always impeccable. She always worked hard to make all her guests feel both welcomed and valued.
In addition to her children and her grandchildren, Janet is survived by her sister, Joan Eggleston of Andrews, TX; brother, Robert McGill and wife Carol of Orange, TX; sister, Linda Ellison and husband, Robert of Houston, TX; sister-in-law, Jane Ann Kruppa and husband, Leonard Kruppa of Temple, TX. She was also loved by her many nieces and nephews and their children. Janet was preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Bradfield.
Janet's life will be celebrated with a visitation on Thursday, March 21st from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by a service on Friday, March 22nd at 10 a.m., both to be held at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to pay their respects may consider making memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or City House, Inc.
