Public visitation will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2026 from 2-4pm at Scanio Harper Funeral Home in Temple. The funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2026 also at Scanio Harper.
Joel was born on July 25, 1949 to Joe F. Garrison and Grace K. Garrison. He was raised and remained in Temple for the duration of his life. He attended Temple High School graduating in 1967. He also attended Temple Junior College and The University of Texas in Austin.
Joel was an active member of The Temple Elk's Lodge and St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Joel is preceded in death by his parents as well as numerous other relatives. He is survived by his son, Brian Garrison and wife, Lauren, his brother, Gary J. Garrison and wife, Susie as well as his Uncle Charles Mertins and wife, Geraldine. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joel will be remembered for his many friendships both young and old in the Temple community. The experiences he had and the stories he told about them are legendary!
His presence will be deeply missed and his memory will live on through the generations of family who so loved him.
