John Joseph Cooney

Mass of Christian Burial for John Joseph Cooney, 78, of Temple will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Steve Sauser officiating.Mr. Cooney died Monday March 12, 2018 at his residence. Mr. Cooney was born February 17, 1940 in San Francisco, California to John Cooney and Alberta Anders Cooney.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era.  He married Marilyn Bancheiri December 23, 1968.  She preceded him in death September 11, 2010.  He worked for Southern Pacific and Union Pacific Railroads.  He moved from Omaha, Nebraska to Temple in 2011.  He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knight in the 3444 Council in Temple.  He was a volunteer at the St. Vincent DePaul Store.  Survivors include his son Daniel Cooney of Temple; one brother Michael Cooney and his wife Christine of California; two sisters Suzanne Cooney of Florida and Barbara Cooney of Oregon; granddaughters Taylor Cooney and Morgan Cooney of Temple; niece Caragh Cooney; nephews Kalan Espinoza and Tieran Espinoza; cousin Bill Cooney of California and God mother Dottie Anders of California.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Knights of Columbus Council 3444 in Temple.Visitation will be at 6:00 P.M. Thursday with Rosary being recited at 7:00 P.M. at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home.
