

John Edward “Ed” Measels, 78, of Temple, TX, passed away on July 27, 2026. He was born to parents, John S. and Dorothy Measels, on January 27,1948 in Temple, TX. After attending high school in Rogers, TX, Ed served in the U.S. Army. He married his beloved wife, Janet, in 1967 and raised one child, Dale.
Upon returning from his time in the service, Ed began his career working at Safeway in Temple, TX. and eventually led him to being transferred to Mexia, TX. He served as Store Manager at the Mexia Safeway store until 1986 where he then went to work for TU Electric, later known as Oncor. He retired from Oncor in 2010. After residing in Mexia for over 35 years, Ed retired to Temple, TX.
Ed is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janet Measels of Temple, his son, Dale Measels and wife Patti of Athens, granddaughters, Kaylie Measels of Dallas and Emily Measels of College Station; one sister, Judy Williams of Magnolia. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Measels.
Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising cattle and competing in draft horse competitions with his Percheron Horses.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Seaton Cemetery in Seaton, TX. Scanio-Harper Funeral Home of Temple is in charge of arrangements.
