John W. Troy

John W. Troy, age 78 of Temple, died Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 PM Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the First Christian Church of Temple with Rev. Dr. Don Lynn officiating. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00 PM Friday, December 10, 2010 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home. Mr. Troy was born March 13, 1932 in Baltimore, Maryland to Hilda Wolfe Troy and William D'Arcy Troy. John graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, TX and received his BBA from North Texas State University in 1954. He married Diane Ratterree June 6, 1952 in Dallas, TX. John served in the U.S.A.F. 1955-1957, after which he was employed by the USDA for 20 years. Later, John owned and operated Polar Bear Ashburn's Ice Cream Parlor in Temple. He then began his career as a Multi-Line Insurance Agent. John was a long-time member of First Christian Church of Temple, in which he held many offices and was recently named Elder Emeritus. John was a member of SPJST Lodge 87, and RVOS Lodge 5. John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Diane Troy of Temple; sons, Stan Troy of Llano, Mark Troy of Viroqua, WI and Phillip Troy of Temple; a brother, Robert D. Troy of Dallas, TX.; 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild. Pallbearers will be Robert Troy, Stan Troy, Mark Troy, Phillip Troy, Sgt. Chris Hampton and Don Ratterree. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Troy, Joe Camp, Ray Hays, Tuesday Morning Bible Study Class, and the Men's Sunday School Class. Memorials may be given in John's name to the First Christian Church of Temple, 300 N. 5th Street, Temple, Texas 76501.
