Juanita Broussard Guthrie

Juanita Broussard Guthrie, age 83 of Temple, died Wednesday February, 23, 2011 in a local hospital. Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Scanio-Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Baxley and Rev. Billy Koinm officiating. Burial will follow at Bellwood Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 6-7:30 PM Friday, February 25, 2011. Mrs. Guthrie was born on June 30, 1927 in Holland, Texas to the late William Hiram Shaw and Rosa Lee Underwood Shaw. She graduated from Buckholts High School in 1945. She married Emmett D. Broussard on June 30, 1945 in Holland and Mr. Broussard preceded her in death in 1973. Juanita worked for Safeway Stores, Inc. for 29 years, retiring in 1986. Juanita married Carl Guthrie on September 12, 1988 in Temple and he preceded her in death in 2010. Juanita lived in the Val Verde community for 18 years and has lived in Temple since 1945. She was a member of Heights Baptist Church, the Golden Heights Choir of Heights Baptist Church and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #133. Juanita was preceded in death by husbands, Emmett Broussard and Carl Guthrie; a grandson, Kevin Benson in 2007 and a brother, H.L. Shaw in 2010. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Benson of Temple; a son, David Broussard and wife Linda of Salado; step children, Janie Franz and husband Ed of San Antonio and Debbie Straka and husband Gene of Houston; five grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
