

Temple, Texas to Cara Crabtree and June Lykes Sr. Mr. Lykes graduated from Temple High
School in 1957 and received a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M in 1961.
He married Sue Barton in May of 1961. Mr. Lykes’ successful career included being the
assistant city manager of Waco, Texas. He was the City Manager of Garland and Killeen He
also served as a real estate consultant on many development projects. Mr. Lykes’ happiest
times were spent farming, ranching, hunting and fishing. He hunted and fished in 49 of the 50
United States during his lifetime. June Lykes was a lifelong Methodist and a long standing
member of the Methodist Church in Temple. A small private family memorial will be held. In lieu
of flowers, please make donations to First Methodist Church of Temple.
He was preceded in death by his father, June Lykes Sr, his mother, Cara Crabtree, two sisters,
Cara Lykes, Caralen Rose and brother-in-law Harold Rose. He was also preceded in death by
his son-in-law, Larry Coats. Survivors include his wife, Sue Lykes, his daughter, Lisa Coats, his
daughter, Laine Gage and son-in-law Brian Gage. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Cara
Harper and husband Christopher Harper, Zachary Gage and wife Anna Gage, Jared Coats and
wife Nicole Coats, Delainey McClay and husband Robert McClay, and Abigail Coats. Niece
Dyna Bailey and husband John Bailey as well as 4 great grandchildren plus two on the way.
